From time to time there may be some cleaning or laundry tasks, particularly in preparation for taking in a new lodger. Volunteers can feel free to join in with any scheduled activities or can encourage lodgers to assist them with tasks.
Drivers must be aged 25 years, hold a full licence (no special licence required) and be able to drive a manual transmission. Drivers are needed for the following times:
Monday-Thursday: 8.40 am from Lodge to Launching Place bus stop (20-30 min trip)
Monday-Thursday: 11.30 pm from Lodge to Yarra Junction (return to Lodge by 1 pm)
Friday: 9.30 am from Lodge to Lilydale/Chirnside Park (return to Lodge by 12.30)
Monday-Friday: 4.30 pm from Lodge to Launching Place bus stop (20-30 min trip)
Saturday: 11.30 am from Lodge to Yarra Junction (return to Lodge by 12.30)
Similar to a ‘buddy system’ seen in schools and workplaces. A volunteer commits to walking alongside a lodger as a friend who will listen well and be a guide through the process of growth at the Lodge. Meet weekly, on or off-site and attend Friday night Community Night/God Spot as able. This relationship may continue beyond life at the Lodge as the lodger seeks to integrate into more permanent accommodation and into mainstream society. Additional training is offered to volunteers taking on this role.
Run a weekly activity to encourage lodgers to learn or improve a skill (eg. carpentry, job skills, hiking).
