General information
If you are interested in volunteering at the Yarra Valley Winter Shelter, here is some information you may find useful:
- Shifts: Evening 5.30 - 11pm, Overnight 11pm - 6am, Morning 6 - 9am.
- Requirements: Volunteers need to be 18 years or older, have a Working With Children Check, attend a compulsory training session and provide a referee (if they have not volunteered before).
- Roles: Shift Workers, Shift Leaders, Minibus Drivers, Trailer Drivers, Cooks
- Training: 2025 training dates TBA
- Venues: Lilydale and Wandin
Roles
General Volunteer
Breakfast Shift (6 - 9am) – set-out breakfast items, interact with guests, clean-up and packup trailer (if moving to next venue)
Evening – (5.30pm - 11pm) - Set-up venue, greet and orient guests, assist with meal serving and clean-up, eat dinner with guests and socialise.
Overnight (11pm - 6am) - Supervise and maintain a safe environment overnight for guests to enable them to sleep. Socialise with those who are awake as needed. Note: Two volunteers on shift to remain awake.
Minibus Driver
Drivers must be aged 25 years, hold a full licence (no special licence required) and be able to drive a manual transmission.
Drivers are needed for the following times:
5.45 pm Daily - pick up from Lilydale to drive to Church venue
8.30 am Daily - pick up from Church venue and drop off in Lilydale
Trailer Driver
Move trailer from venue to venue after 9am and before 5.30pm
