Interested in starting a Winter Night Shelter?

Participating in Stable One’s Winter Night Shelter has provided members of our church yet another avenue to demonstrate the love of Jesus towards people in our community. One aspect of this ministry that I admire is that we are able to serve in unison, focusing on Kingdom goals, through a wide variety of people expressing an equally diverse number of skills. We want our guests to be shown care and compassion during the challenging winter months – all without regard to waving a denominational flag.
— Pastor Michael Drennan, Mooroolbark Baptist Church

'Our mission is to support the Church .... '

Stable One came into existence to help churches work together to minister to those experiencing homelessness in our community.

We have been working hard since August 2016 to bring our Christian community together - to pray and also to act. The 2017 Winter Night Shelter pilot project was our first big effort and took an enormous amount of work (read about it here). On the back of a successful pilot and plenty of learning, we ran a second Winter Night Shelter in 2018 (read the project summary here).

As an organisation we are seeking to equip the wider Church by providing resources and support. We are developing the Stable One Winter Shelter Network with a view to seeing every town and city across Australia running their own projects. Contact us if you are interested in being kept up to date.

Stable One has put together a Tool Kit for churches who are interested in running their own Winter Night Shelter. It contains practical information, along with sample forms, policies and procedures and role descriptions.

We would like to share these resources to give others a head start. We can also offer support by attending meetings, giving advice, assisting with training and supporting coordinators. Contact for more details.

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength and love your neighbour as yourself.
